I. Scope and Purpose
This policy establishes guidelines for the installation and use of Internet services throughout the Company.
II. Policies
- The Internet system, including hardware, software, and messages, is the property of Company.
- The Internet system shall be used for Company business purposes only. Users should not consider messages personal or private.
- The use and continued use of the Internet system by user is specific consent to Company monitoring.
- Company shall have the right to monitor messages for specific business-related purposes and may delete all nonbusiness-related messages.
- Users shall respect the copyrighted works of the Company and others, and shall not make any unauthorized copies, and before downloading software shall determine that Company has an appropriate license.
- Users shall not communicate confidential, business sensitive, and trade secret information of the Company or others using the Internet system, unless adequately encrypted as provided by the Information Technology (IT) Department.
- Users should exercise appropriate thought and care with Internet messages in a manner expected for other written communications on matters related to Company business.
- User shall not publish statements that are false, disparaging, discriminatory, harassing, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate or inconsistent with Company’s code of conduct and this policy.
- Improper use of Internet services inconsistent with the intent of this policy shall be grounds for disciplinary action, including termination of employment.
III. General
- Users may utilize Internet services based on an identified business need for those services in the execution of their jobs.
- The user assumes the responsibility to effectively manage use of Internet services. To gain access to the Internet, the user will use only approved Information Technology (IT) Department resources such as an official firewall. Other means of access can cause security issues.
- The IT Department will provide a secure means of connecting to the Internet, including firewalls and software.
- This policy does not address the development of internal Internet (Intranet) services or web sites. Anyone seeking to develop an Intranet server, application or web site should contact the Vice President, Engineering and IT for approval.
IV. Responsibilties
- End Users
- Identify the need for Internet services and complete a Communication Request Form AL 6887.
- Obtain the approvals of department management, functional Vice President and Executive Vice President.
- Comply with this policy as it may be amended from time to time.
- Information Technology Department
- Educate users on risks associated with on-line activities and provide a copy of this policy to each user.
- Coordinate this policy with other Company policies prohibiting discrimination, harassment, or other inappropriate behavior.
